Summary: | The International Chicken Sequencing Consortium announced that it has completed the sequencing of chicken DNA. I repeat: There is an organization called "The International Chicken Sequencing Consortium". (For some reason I want to think these people get together and decide, "Okay, Ginger goes first, then Bunty, then Babs...") |

That’s rich. Does this mean they’ll begin the sequencing of Schoolyard Bully DNA?
Thanks for the Drag and Drop articles too.
That’s too funny. The first thing I thought when I saw the title of this entry was that someone had gotten together to solve the multithreaded chicken issue:

Mike, that multithreaded chicken joke is great.
The International Chicken Sequencing Consortium also announced that their recent discoveries were the result from earlier efforts of putting all of their ducks in a row.
I wonder if they were able to isolate the "tastes like" chromosome?
Andy in Austin:
They have already, sort of. Try a "Not Chicken(TM)" which is based on soy instead of chicken, but it tastes quite like chicken (if I remember correctly how chicken tastes like, that is :)). For example see the product "Original Soy Filets" on this page http://www.sanitarium.com.au/products/meals/soy-healthy.html
I’ve actually heard it referred to (on Slashdot and several news articles) the International Chicken *Genome* Sequencing Consortium, which makes sense and unforunately is much less funny. :-)
On the other hand, I’ve also heard it the way you mention it.
It’s not a real organization–just a collective name for the people who are authors on the paper. Since there are 175 of us that would be a pretty enormous author list (the full list is at the end of the paper).
But I don’t want to sequence chickens! I want to sequence ducks! Once I get all my ducks in a row I can…

And how would you respond to the IERS (International Earth Rotation Service) ?
Everybody needs a new Earth once in a while. :)
