I dreamed that I was playing doubles tennis. My partner was Boris Becker. Our opponents were the Queen of England and a policeman on a horse. The horse served his horseshoe, which I returned poorly. As the horseshoe bounced across the ground, it made huge divots. The game was called due to poor ground conditions. The Queen played a game with the crowd by pretending to sit down (allowing everybody to sit), then faking them out and standing (making everybody stand up again). |

Hey Raymond: I know you announced the whole dream thing, but have you, y'know, like… considered that the type of people who like to read about Win32 and the intricacies of COM aren't really the appropriate audience? No offense.

I do not understand people who complains about Raymond's dreams. They are off-topic, surely, and nobody makes you like them. But on the other hand, nobody makes you read them either. Personally, I enjoy The Daily WTF, but find Friday's "Error'd" boring and pointless. What do I do? Do I flame Alex? No, I just skip them. Both Alex and Raymond can make what they want in their respective blogs.
My favorite dream yet (of yours). My wife and I both got a big laugh out of this. Thanks for sharing!
I think the big thing is that this is the internet and Raymond is probably lying. Anyone can say they dreamt about anything. Us technical types like things that can't so easily be faked — like how horrendous Win32 code is :)

It wouldn't surprise me, although you probably won't ever see it because she *is* the Queen. Her husband Prince Philip, however is known for his wicked (and pointedly non-PC) humour that probably helps her through her job.

FYI to those complaining: if you don't like this subject and can't filter by tags, you can stop reading after the first two words of the blog post if they match "I dreamed". Just sayin'.

I have to be a pedant and state that there is no such person as the "Queen of England". The Monarchy of England came to an end in 1707 when the country of Great Britain was formed. Great Britain became the United Kingdom in 1801. You no doubt mean the "Queen of the United Kingdom" instead.
Wikipedia has a rather extensive list of Her Majesty's many titles: en.wikipedia.org/…/List_of_titles_and_honours_of_Queen_Elizabeth_II.
Doesn't have quite the same ring to it though.
@Pedant: She's also the Queen of Canada and the Queen of Australia among other titles…
Amusingly enough, the Queen of England was the principle maintainer of GDM for quite a while, until they realized she'd been dead for ~300 years

@Pedant; 'England' can mean England itself, Great Britain or the United Kingdom; the three terms are normally considered equivalent and interchangeable in many contexts.

After giving it some more thought, your point is moot. Raymond never said *when* in history his dream occurred. He could have well dreamed of playing tennis in 1700 with Queen Anne.

It's quite reasonable to take offence to 'Queen of England' because it's like people have forgotten about the rest of the country, or to the actual English it sounds like they're being sectioned-off.
I'm English and I've noticed a lot of Americans being funny with me about saying 'England' rather than UK or Britain. I describe myself as 'British' and that's usually met with "don't you mean English?" 'Queen of England' is a very American thing, I think, and it's a little cheeky.
I personally don't care, although Raymond sounds a little ignorant saying it, but then again I really don't care; I probably sound ignorant saying 'American' or something.
Oh and for interest's sake, she'd still be the Queen of Scotland if Salmon gets his way, he doesn't want to remove the monarchy from Scotland, just the UK government.

This is Raymond's blog, so anything he posts on it is on-topic, surely. Just because someone only reads it for one type of topic doesn't mean that other topics are off-topic.
